How can I install Family Tree PHP?

Installing Family Tree PHP is very easy and can be done in less than 5 minutes.

• Download and unzip the zip-folder. Copy all files to the folder of your website where you want to install the package.
• Then open in your browser the file install.php (ex. http://www.yourdomain.com/folder/install.php).
• Follow the instructions you get there.

When you have completed the installation, you probably want to update the settings and user rights according to your wishes, import a gedcom file, install more languages and/or templates and edit the messages on the welcome and registration pages.

Settings

Go to Dashboard > Settings and follow the instructions there.

User rights

The user rights define what a visitor to your website can see. You can set different rights for administrators, registered users and guests. Go to Dashboard > Users > User rights and follow the instructions there.

Edit texts

You can edit the texts for the welcome page, the registration page, the comment page and the email that is send to new users after their account is approved. You can edit this texts separately for each installed language. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Texts and select the text you want to edit.

Import a gedcom file

Go to Dashboard > Trees > Import a gedcom file and follow the instructions there.

Install a new language

• Download the language pack.
• Upload it to the folder ‘lang’.
• Go to Dashboard > Settings > Languages and click on the language you want to install. Enter a name for this language and set it to active.

Install a new template

• Download the template pack.
• Upload it to the folder ‘templates’.
• Go to Dashboard > Settings > Templates and follow the instructions there.
